UCL MARSHGATE
Mace
THE RESULT.
At the heart of the building is a central atrium that is openly accessible to encourage inclusivity and community engagement with the use of a 'Fluid Zone' at ground and first floor level to draw people into the building. The signage solution was designed to encourage collaboration and engagement between academic uses through largely open plan and circulatory spaces. The building was divided into four colour ways to improve the navigation throughout the building, with main directories listing all departments, reinforced with 3D visual maps.
THE CHALLENGE.
Marshgate is part of UCL East, a new world-class UCL campus located on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. Lead design consultants Sheppard Robson, challenged our design team to push flexibility to its limits resulting in a wayfinding strategy designed to provide new spaces for collaborative thinking that transcends the boundaries of traditional academic activities.
